BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND…

trixhaticonpitchhhhThis Whimsie scares me a little.

It might just be the outfit, since she’s dressed like a devil. I know it’s supposed to be in fun, but still, it worries me. Her clothes are just too red. And her hair is just TOO RED! And why is her belly showing like that?? And besides, she’s carrying a pitchfork, which looks like it could do some damage, if she poked you with it in just the right place. Oh! And did I happen to mention…she has a TAIL!!!

There’s something unnatural about this Whimsie.

Yes, she’s very pretty. Her eyes are so big and bright, her complexion is flawless; she doesn’t even appear to have any freckles! But that HAIR!! There’s so much of it, and it’s very healthy-looking, but it’s so…so red! I just can’t get over this hair. Sure, my hair is pink, but pink is so much…well…NICER… than red.

deviltailRed can be an angry color, and I’m afraid that if I ever met this Whimsie, and for any reason might make her angry (quite by accident, I assure you! I would never do anything to intentionally provoke anyone in a devil’s suit!), perhaps she would take it into her mind to poke me with that pitchfork. Perhaps yes…perhaps no. At any rate, I don’t want to find out.

Maybe I would feel differently if she would just change her clothes, and put on something pretty and pink, and maybe a pair of little white lace-up shoes, and a nice roomy pair of pants to cover up that tail. No, wait! What am I saying?? She doesn’t REALLY have a tail, does she? That’s just part of a costume, right? She’s not really a devil?

Ohh! Woe is me! I’m getting myself all out of sorts over this silly Whimsie in her completely inappropriate costume. I need to calm down. First of all, I sincerely doubt I would ever meet in real life anyone who has such red hair, and carries a pitchfork. And I’m also sure that if by any chance this devil girl tried to wiggle her way into Whimsieville, Miss Chrissy would never allow it, and Mr. Squee would put her out immediately, keeping Whimsieville safe for all decent, normal Whimsies, like me and Tillie and Tessie.

Then again…maybe if I DID meet her, I’d quickly discover she was just wearing this outfit as a big joke, perhaps for Halloween, and after Halloween, when she’s wearing soft jammies (with no actual tail underneath!) she would just sit down and play cards and read books and watch movies with the rest of us. And maybe she’s the most fun Whimsie girl in all the world, with the most delightful giggle and sense of humor, only I would never know it, because I’m too afraid to get anywhere near her when she’s wearing that devil suit.

Jeez! You know that saying, “Clothes make the man”? Well, how about…clothes make the Whimsie?

I think I’ve learned a lesson here. We all have to be so careful about the choices we make.

And to my way of thinking, maybe this Whimsie should have made some better wardrobe choices before she decided to come out in public.
